About us

Chris Danielle Stitches

Thank you for visiting our shops online home, we are Chris & Danielle Roche, a Mum and Daughter team from Galway.

Stitches first began altering clothing for the people of Galway back in 1980 and is Galway`s longest running alterations business. We were delighted when the opportunity to acquire Stitches came about and in 2020 we took over the business just as it was about to celebrate its 40th year.  Since then, we have been centre to the business and have enjoyed every bit of the journey to date.

We both share a keen interest in clothing repairs, upcycling and crafting, and are always dabbling at something or other. We are both very hands on and involved in the day to day running of Stitches and looking forward to seeing Stitches continue to grow for many more years to come.

Our Retail Shop:

In 2022 we decided to move Stitches to a much bigger premises as demand was far bigger than the space we had. With this move we also opened a retail shop as there was no dedicated haberdashery shop in Galway city centre.

As you enter the door of Stitches, you are met with an array of colour from wool, fabric and crafting supplies, as well as a very busy clothing alterations studio. Both operations complement each other being under the one roof at 23-25 Eyre Street, right in the heart of Galway City, just off Eyre Square.

Our store is a busy one, the atmosphere is warm and friendly and we pride ourselves on being able to offer all our customers individual attention

Our Aim:

Stitches has grown to be the main go to place for all types of alterations in Galway City, County and beyond, it is a name that has been recommended far and wide, a name you can trust with your clothes. We are delighted to say we have had customers travel to us from Mayo, Sligo, Limerick and as far south as Cork.

It has been often said that there is always a warm friendly atmosphere to be had as you enter the door of Stitches, one customer described it as a feeling of nostalgia. Our aim is to continue to maintain that warm family feel, it is very much at the heart of our team.

What we do:

Every day is filled with rails holding various types of garments and each and every one is treated with care. Our daily list includes items such as replacing a broken jacket zip, shortening a pair of trousers or jeans, relining a coat or pair of curtains, repairing a leather jacket to the more detailed formal wear such as wedding, debs, communion dresses, suit tailoring and corporate orders, the list is endless.

One of our main specialties is bridal and formal wear and we have highly experienced Seamstresses qualified in this area with many years of experience between them. Please see our Bridal page.

Where next:

Our next step is to see our store available online and we are delighted to say that journey has begun. Please bear with us as we build our online store, where soon you will be able to purchase all your knitting, crochet and sewing supplies from the comfort of your own family home.

Being family run tends to bring the same family vibe to Stitches, we know the majority of our customers by name, there is always friendly banter or a listening ear to be had instore”

We look forward to seeing you soon.

Le Grá,

Chris & Danielle
